Inwa girl
A local girl sells souvenir opium scales and jade carvings at the site of the old kingdom of Ava, near present-day Inwa. The bark-based paste on her cheeks, called thanakha, is popular with Burmese women, and is said to act as a sunscreen, perfume, skin softener, and insect repellent.
